A Day at a Glance: Thoughts For One Day Using Instructional Technology

Blended Learning: Technology for Engagement and Voice

Blended learning is a way to spark innovative change and efficiency in modern classrooms. Catlin Tucker, a Google Certified Innovator and international trainer, highlights creative ways to engage students, deepen understanding, and evaluate learning in a productive way for educators. Being in a 1:1 district, it is important to highlight how to utilize instructional technology, on a daily basis, to power up learning for our students!

A Day at a Glance: One Day Using Instructional Technology

I challenge you to take at least one of these instructional technology tools and blend it into your daily instruction. Tweet pictures or questions to @GCISDInTech or @EdTechKars!
  • Use Flipgrid to assess prior knowledge. Students could create a short Flipgrid to summarize learning that took place the day before and share with a partner!

Station Rotations and Checking for Understanding Throughout Instruction
  • Station Rotations are a way to increase learning through different stations: Online, Teacher-Led, and Offline. With clear expectations, take advantage of instructional time and utilize student devices for independent learning. For your online station, consider using Flipgrid, Flippity, Padlet, or Peer Grade - Just to name a few!
  • In order for students to become self sufficient and lifetime learners, it is important that they have voice and choice when reflecting on their learning. ePortfolios are one way to showcase valuable projects, assessments, and standards taught throughout the year.
  • There are many ways to do this, but having one platform, such as Google Sites, helps reduce confusion, along with aligning some of the choice students have.
  • This is just one High School Example of an ePortfolio!
